Arboretum (Tournay)
Located on the territory of the municipality of Tournay, the plot which serves as the framework for the arboretum is an old fern moor. This was still harvested barely 50 years ago, for cattle bedding.
Wooded for the first time in 1938, the plot was affected by a fire in 1956. A few Maritime Pines and Sylvester Pines are the only remains of this plantation. From 1958, a new reforestation associated side by side young plants of various species: larches, Laricio pines, red oaks, Lawson cypress, ... In 1992, the municipality of Tournay decides on the proposal of Mr. Patrick Pierquet, agent ONF, to give this place a tourist and educational vocation.
From 70 species present at the start, the 9 hectares of the Arboretum now have more than 170! As you take a detour, you can spot a squirrel or a deer and understand the evolution of forest life.
The visit of the arboretum is open and free and is carried out with the help of a guide available on request
The site is signposted from Tournay and parking spaces are available at the start.
On the course of the terminals materialize 9 breaks which will allow you to observe and discover the species which surround you.
Guided tours by an ONF agent are possible for groups and schools (if you have an educational project, you can tell us about it and suggest a theme for the visit)
Summer discovery trips are organized by the ONF
