Pont Napoléon (Luz-Saint-Sauveur)
The Napoleon Bridge spans the Gave de Gavarnie Valley near Luz-Saint-Sauveur. It was built between 1859 and 1863 at the request of Napoleon III who stayed with the Empress Eugenie in Luz-Saint-Sauveur for a spa treatment. During this stay, the Emperor decided to start a vast program of road works, including the construction of this bridge, but also the construction of the railway from Lourdes to Pierrefitte, numerous medical establishments such as the Asile Sainte-Eugénie, the military hospital of Barèges, the Etablissement des Bains and religious buildings.
